Week 2 Day 5 of BBB

It's late Friday evening, closing in on the end of the second week of Brutal Beauty Bootcamp. I'm pretty pleased with how things are going, notwithstanding that stupid piece of junk in my bathroom that calls itself a scale. Grr!

Ok, ok. I understand that it's a bad thing (supposedly) to weigh yourself every day. I understand that sometimes you can see the scale not move (or even go up!) yet still lose inches. I get it. I really do. But. I weigh myself every day. It's just a thing I do. And it's not because I want to punish myself about what I ate yesterday, or didn't eat...it's because, well...I kind of look at this like an experiment.

For example: I've noticed a trend over the last two weeks. The day after a training day, my weight is always up. It seems that the more carbs I eat, the more my weight goes up. It's a positive correlation. My calories are on-target, my protein is nice and high, I'm eating REALLY CLEAN...there's no other reason why I could be gaining weight. So, it must be water.

Last week, when I first noticed it, that weight (plus some) disappeared by the morning of the next training day. Today, I was up a pound from three days ago (the morning of my first workout day this week, the furthest I can get from a carb re-feed).

Last night, I got curious. I can't really tell much by my waistband if I'm losing any fat from the belly. I see some change in my face and neck, but I haven't measured my neck (hmm should do that, now that I think of it). So I measured myself. I was pleasantly surprised. In total, since I last measured myself at the end of December, I've lost an inch off my waist, an inch off my thigh, 3/4 of an inch off my upper arm, and an inch off my bust measurement. Wow. Not bad for - essentially - two weeks of serious bootcamp and one week of half-assed somewhat Paleo eating and a couple workouts!

I'm pretty pleased. I think I'll keep this up!

Eat Fat to Lose Fat

Carrying on from our discussion of butter, the next logical topic is...fat.  "Fat" is an evil word that has been demonized for the last...oh, 50 years or so.  The first thing you readers need to understand is that there are good fats, and there are bad fats. This post will concentrate on good fats.  Bad fats will come later.

Hydration is Key

Water is a basic life requirement. Our bodies are composed of (approx) 70% water-practically every system uses water. Blood, brain, breathing, organs, joints, muscles, skin...all of these things and more are dependent upon water. Dehydration is the #1 trigger for daytime fatigue-not lack of sleep!

What may be surprising to some is the link between weight loss (or optimal weight maintenance) and adequate hydration. I read on weightlossforall.com that water makes your metabolism burn 3% faster. In addition, being sufficiently hydrated allows your body to be working at peak performance. That's a desirable outcome.

Weight Loss Tips that Work

Weight Loss Tips that Work
by Rebecca MacLary (Berry)

This article is comprised of 20 weight loss tips that you need to follow in order to lose weight and keep it off.  Many weight loss tips from other sites give you poor or unproven advice.  The thing about these weight loss tips is, I KNOW THEY WORK.  I follow them myself. I have been successful in assisting others to lose weight – all based on following these simple weight loss tips.  If you think all of this is a little overwhelming, start with a few of the tips and work your way up.  You'll see that it's easier to continue once you've seen lost some weights and realize this really works.

Each point has been briefly explained.  I will delve into each one in a more in-depth manner in upcoming posts.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

1.  Forget about using a “diet” for a few weeks or months then going back to your old bad habits.  It won’t work.

2.  You need to change your lifestyle, for good.  You got to the shape you’re in now by having bad eating and/or exercise habits.

3.  Weight Loss is achieved through controlling what you put in your mouth.  It’s as easy as that.  Weight loss is 80% food choices and 20% exercise.
